Ankle Joint: Anatomy, Ligaments, and Common Injuries

The ankle joint (talocrural joint) is a hinge synovial joint formed between the tibia, fibula, and talus. It allows dorsiflexion and plantarflexion and is stabilized by the medial (deltoid) and lateral ligament complexes. The ankle is the most commonly injured joint in the body, with lateral ligament sprains being most frequent.
